October 21, 2026

Sustainable AI Group (SAIG) has joined the Green Software Foundation to help advance how the industry measures and reduces AI’s environmental impacts.

Mila and SAIG partnership

Our work is grounded in the belief that better information, tools, and strategies can help organizations make the AI industry more sustainable. That requires greater transparency about AI’s energy use and emissions, and shared approaches to measuring them.

GSF brings organizations together to build consensus around standards. Its Software Carbon Intensity for AI (SCI for AI) work is a natural fit with our research on AI’s environmental footprint. We look forward to contributing our experience in energy and emissions measurement across open and closed models, learning from fellow members, and helping turn research into practical action.

We're proud to be joining GSF's existing members including Accenture, Cisco, Google, IBM, Siemens, Microsoft, HSBC, UBS, Aveva and more.

To mark our membership, GSF published a Q&A with SAIG co-founder and CEO Boris Gamazaychikov about our work and what we hope to contribute.

About Sustainable AI Group (SAIG)

Sustainable AI Group (SAIG) is a research and advisory firm helping enterprises measure, compare, and act on the environmental impacts of AI. The firm was founded by two pioneers in the field: Dr. Sasha Luccioni, a renowned AI researcher with a decade of experience building field-defining benchmarks, and Boris Gamazaychikov, a strategist specializing in AI enterprise implementation. Together, they help organizations make AI sustainable in practice by grounding deployment decisions in empirical evidence. SAIG supports organizations adopting AI by conducting rigorous studies on fundamental environmental questions, developing evidence-based procurement guidelines, and engineering practical tools — such as the AI Energy Score — that bridge the gap between climate science and real-world corporate decision-making.
